When a foreign brand owner enters a Chinese language-speaking market (including the regions of Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau), its choice, use and registration of a Chinese-language trademark is important. No matter how successful a foreign language brand or trademark is in its English-speaking markets, it is not certain that its Chinese-language brand will be equally successful in China. It is also not certain that its Chinese-language trademark will have automatic and equal protection in China.
